Faust II

Bronze, 20.2", Edition 20

Many great writers have told the story of Faust, an earnest scholar, who accepted a demon's offer to sell his soul for love, fame, or power.  Here he is depicted in the throes of agony, having consigned himself forever to suffer the tortures of Hell (suggested at by the grasping hands, reaching out to pull him down) , in exchange for a few fleeting, and ultimately unfulfilling pleasures, on earth.  Poor Faust! he has no one but himself to blame for his fate, and he must literally ponder that for eternity.
